Time Traveller: The Girl Who Leapt Through Time - A Sequel to the Original 1983 Film Adaptation

Ryota aspires to be a famous director, and Akari helps film a movie with him during the time they spend together. Akari also meets her father in the past. Akari and Ryota place a personal ad for Kazuo to meet them in the lab Akari first appeared in, but when the previously dictated time and date for the meeting comes, Ryota is too caught up in grief over his father's sudden death to appear. Akari delivers the message to Kazuo, saying that her mother remembers the promise he made to visit her in the future. Kazuo tells Akari of his history with her mother. Kazuko had met Kazuo in the middle school science lab and accidentally inhaled the fumes of his time travel formula, allowing her to time-jump brief amounts of time. He erased her memory of him, and plans to do the same to Akari.

Akari asks to say goodbye to Ryota, who does not know when she is going back to her time. Ryota bids Akari farewell in misunderstanding, as he is leaving for a day trip. He gives Akari the soundless movie film to keep. Akari realizes too late that Ryota is going on a bus that will famously crash off a cliff and kill all passengers, and rushes off to save him, but Kazuo stops her from changing the past and erases her memory of both himself and Ryota.

Akari follows her mother's directions, but remembers the wrong date and travels back in time to a point two years too late to February 1974, the month of the Noshiro night bus incident. She meets and befriends Ryota Mizorogi who takes pity on her and agrees to help her out. In turn she helps Ryota finish his science fiction movie while they look for her mother's lover. She falls in love, meets her mother, meets her father, and finally meets the mysterious Kazuo Fukamachi. Meanwhile, the Noshiro night bus incident looms in the rapidly approaching future.

To be fair, this one feels more like a sci-fi space movie, but it does have some time travel elements and viewers will be blown away by the thrilling scenes and thought-provoking plot. Set in the year 2067, where humanity is struggling to survive, Interstellar tells the story of a group of volunteers who travel through a wormhole near Saturn, hoping to find a safer world in a distant galaxy. The star-studded cast includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Matt Damon.

Nearly four decades after a deadly virus gets released, destroying nearly all of humankind, James Cole (Bruce Willis), a criminal from the future, is chosen to travel back in time and help scientists create a cure. Inspired by Chris Marker's 1962 short film, La Jetée, the movie also stars Madeleine Stowe, Brad Pitt and Christopher Plummer.

The Butterfly Effect brilliantly explores the concept where the smallest change can trigger a series of events and lead to much bigger consequences. Evan Treborn (Ashton Kutcher), who experienced a number of blackouts throughout his childhood, realizes that he can travel back in time by revisiting those same moments. Naturally, he tries to fix everything that went wrong, but this plan backfires.

Inspired by Yasutaka Tsutsui's novel of the same name, the film follows a high school girl who uses her newfound ability to time travel for her own gain. But when she sees the negative impact that this has on those around her, she's determined to make things right. Not only is it filled with lovable characters, but it also tackles themes like bullying, friendship and self-awareness.

I saw this film at the US premiere at the New York International Children's Film Festival and it really knocked my socks off.The plot of the film has a high school senior named Makoto Konno going through life blissfully hanging out with friends, and trying to cope with the pressures of being a high schooler. On a day when everything is going wrong Makoto suddenly discovers that she has somehow become able to leap through time. Suddenly able to relive great days or correct past mistakes she thinks she has somehow managed to to find a way to make her wishes (and those of her friends) come true. Unfortunately it soon becomes clear that some of the changes have consequences that she never intended.(I dare not say too much more since the revealing too much will clue you in too early as to whats going on in the film, perhaps taking a bit of the edge off the wonder. Trust me you'll thank me once you see the film yourself).More like a novel than a movie this film takes its time getting to where its going and its better for it. Here we have a bunch of likable kids who are simply trying to get out of school and go on to the next level, at the same time trying to deal with things like lost puddings and the members of the opposite sex. Since we get to know and to like the kids (and adults) we become invested in what happens to them. Will they make the right choice? Who can say when you have the ability to do it over again. One of the better animated features of the last year (from any country) this is a smart drama/comedy/romance/thriller. This is unlike any American animated film of recent vintage in that it talks to its audience with out dumbing everything down or needing to follow some corporate formula for success. Here is a film that is more than just dumb jokes, but is instead about people. This is a movie that should be seen by anyone who wants to see a great movie, and not just an animated one.

Teenager Makoto Konno is a normal school girl. She plays baseball with her male friends. She's late a lot. She stumbles upon a small object at the school and she has a surreal journey. When she gets hit by a train while riding her faulty bike, she jumps back in time to safety. This is a good Japanese animated movie. I like the characters. The story is pretty good in a Groundhog Day way. It's all pretty good. I don't have any big complaints but I'm not completely falling in love with this either. The issue is Chiaki Mamiya. He needs to be more charismatic and he needs more time on the screen. I get that he's a super cool dude. The most compelling aspect of his character seems to be his hair. He has some good moment but there isn't enough until the reveal. I don't mind it but he could be more. More back and forth in the romance would really help. The lakeside ride comes out of nowhere. It needs some more development.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time revolves around typical high school student Makoto Konno (voiced by Emily Hirst). During an especially bad day, she suddenly discovers that she has literally gained the ability to leap back through time. At first, she frivolously uses her power to rectify her terrible day. However, the consequences spill over and begin to affect her friends around her, including her best friends Chiaki Mamiya (Andrew Francis) and Kōsuke Tsuda (Alex Zahara). At first, there are just little consequences, such as someone else being blamed for an accident she caused and her friend drifting away after gaining a girlfriend. So, she goes back to fix these new complications. However, things slowly start spinning out of control as she realizes that she only has a few chances left to fix everything. I like the simplicity of the design of this film.

A film with perhaps the lowest budget on this list, Timecrimes is a Spanish-language movie that follows a typical time travel trope (many copies of one person causing major problems) but creates 92 minutes of truly enjoyable cinema. The fun moments of Timecrimes are the reveal after reveal after reveal, which snowballs into a fascinating plot.

In this Marvel sleeper hit, Stephen Strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) becomes the Sorcerer Supreme, and in typical Marvel fashion, is tasked with saving the world. Although the visuals alone are worthing giving this movie a shot, its manipulation of time as a superpower rather than a world-altering plot device is what sets it apart from the rest.

This 2006 award-winning anime is a coming-of-age time travel story that even rivals Back to the Future. After schoolgirl Mokoto Konno discovers a time travel device that gives her the power to leap through time, she uses her new gifts for mundane high school stuff, passing tests, avoiding awkward conversations, and to address her chronic lateness.

Inspired by the 1962 French short film La Jetée, 12 Monkeys is about a deadly virus and a last-ditch effort to save humanity. James Cole (Bruce Willis) is sent back in time to hopefully avoid his own nightmarish future. What follows is two hours of sci-fi noir excellence with incredibly deep artistic talent, with Brad Pitt, Christopher Plummer, and Terry Gilliam behind the camera. The film remains one of the best examples of time travel fiction and is ubiquitously beloved by all sci-fi buffs.

As she entered and looked around, Missy was confused. The locker room had been transformed. She never would have guessed that sports teams spent any time in here. Pipes with drapes hung along one side of the room creating individual nooks to give models some privacy while they changed clothes. Three raised platforms, several full-length mirrors and three clothing racks on wheels had been placed strategically around the room so that each team had a defined working area. As Figures and Icons set up in their designated space, students from the competing schools came by and introduced themselves. Everyone was nervous and excited. As the students began opening their garment bags, a hush came over the room. Teams concentrated on dressing their models and preparing them for the runway show. 2ff7e9595c
